Reformist Area

Reformist Area (''Area Riformista'', AR) is a predominantly social-democratic faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy.
It was founded in April 2014 by a substantial number of supporters of Gianni Cuperlo in the 2013 Democratic Party leadership election, which Cuperlo lost to Matteo Renzi. AR, which is mostly composed of ''Bersaniani'', ''Dalemiani'' and ''Lettiani'', found its leader in Roberto Speranza, the party's floor leader in the Chamber of Deputies.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Pd, nasce "Area riformista": "Noi in minoranza, ma non siamo più anti-renziani" | Europa Quotidiano )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Lunedì il battesimo di Area riformista, la minoranza del Pd "leale" e "autonoma" | Europa Quotidiano )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Area riformista: lettiani, bersaniani, dalemiani, giovani turchi. In April 2015 Speranza, who dissented from Renzi on electoral reform, resigned from leader in the Chamber. This move weakened his leadership over the so-called "dialoguing left" (with Renzi) and ultimately broke the faction's unity and ranks. 70 MPs of AF, including Cesare Damiano, Matteo Mauri, Enzo Amendola, Paola De Micheli and Luciano Pizzetti, joined forces with Maurizio Martina, minister of Agricolture and leading member of the Remake Italy faction, and formed Left is Change,〔http://www.repubblica.it/politica/2015/06/19/news/pd_sinistra_e_cambiamento_cinque_proposte_per_riformare_il_paese-117226814/〕〔http://www.ansa.it/sito/notizie/politica/agenda/2015/06/18/presentazione-sinistra-e-cambiamento-con-martina-e-damiano_60a3de66-600e-4fb3-96a6-0b0f9a613e4c.html〕〔http://www.affaritaliani.it/milano/la-minoranza-pd-riparte-da-milano-martina-non-si-candidera-a-sindaco-372506.html?refresh_ce〕 while what remained of AF, under the leadership of Speanza and Pier Luigi Bersani, started a rapprochement with Cuperlo's LeftDem.
